Hi everyone! I have been lurking on here for a few years, after attending a timeshare presentation package at the Hyatt Windward Pointe in Key West. Since then we have attended several Bonnet Creek presentations in order to get the free tickets and to stay at the resort. We also did a presentation at Westgate this year. We have no problem attending presentations and resisting the sales pitch. We have also rented from owners for great prices at Bonnet Creek. We have enjoyed renting and the type of accommodations we have had. We have not purchased anything (resale) yet, because we want to be certain we are getting something that will be a great value for us. I enjoy learning about timesharing, but I have still been unable to determine what system/type of unit/points would get us the most bang for the buck.
If anyone has any recommendations, on what could get us the most time for the lowest price, I would love to hear. My husband is self employed and works online. We travel internationally a lot, (Mexico and Central America, Caribbean) and will be living in Mexico for the next few years. We are from Florida and come to Florida a few times a year to visit family, go to Disney. We really loved Bonnet Creek. I would love to buy something that could give us multiple weeks of travel, utilizing off season, trade power etc. We are a family of 4, with young kids so we could do a week in a studio/hotel room, as well as something bigger. We are very flexible. Thanks!!
Another Question: We are trying to figure out how to use a timeshare my husbands parents own (from his grandmother) and never use. It is a small resort in Daytona Beach. Perennial Vacation Club (deeded, fixed week, Labor Day- not a part of the club since it was bought in the 1970's) It is a 1 bedroom, ocean front. MF are about $400 a year. We used it this year, since it was going to go to waste, but Daytona really isn't someplace we would like to vacation every year. I am wondering if it would be worth it to get a membership and deposit into II or RCI? What could we get for an exchange?
1) Where do you want your home resort to be? Someplace in Florida, most likely Orlando- we have family in Orlando, Fort Myers, and South east Coast. We are here visiting several times a year.
2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? I can see us doing both. We are going to be living in Mexico in 2016 and also go to Florida every year.
3) What are your 5 top trade destinations? Florida (Keys, Orlando, South Florida, Sanibel/Ft. Myers), Mexico, Caribbean, California
4) How many people do you usually travel with? 4
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? Any time. We homeschool.
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? yes, but we are very flexible and can also take last minute trips- if we don't need to buy airline tickets.. My husband works from home.
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? yes
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 4-5
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? Would love to pick up a free or very low cost timeshare. $2000 max.
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? $1500
11) Are you a detail oriented planner? yes
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? yes
