I just got my deed in the mail earlier this week, so I really wasn't expecting my account to be set up for another 4-6 weeks or so, but just to see if there was anything I could do to avoid increased transfer fees after Jan. 1 (and also to double check that I didn't need to rescue points from the prior owner, because the closing company didn't send me a copy of the estoppel), I went ahead and called.
To my surprise, they were able to give me an account number--less than a week after the date on the deed (if you count the holiday). So I registered a username, etc., and I'm off to the races. My first booking was an open season stay over Dr. King's birthday weekend in Las Vegas (celebrating civil rights by playing pai gow poker? Hmm). We booked a 2BR, because a friend might come along, and I canceled a studio at Elara, which I'd booked as a hotel stay through the Hilton website, because open season at the Boulevard was so much cheaper. Plus--studio, versus 2BR, and it's still cheaper. Terrific!
But now, I've got a whole boatload of questions.
1. I couldn't get revolution to work, so I made my open season booking in classic, which worked fine. But, in terms of availability, I noticed that some properties are missing entirely. So, like, if Elara doesn't show up, is it the case that there's just no open season availability at that property, or are some properties not online?
2. I was under the impression that within the 30 day window, it would be possible to use either points or cash for the open season reservation, but it didn't seem to give me a points option, which makes me wonder whether I'm navigating the transaction the wrong way, or whether I'm wrong about being able to use points within the 30 day window.
3. We've got the two-bedroom reserved in Vegas, but there's a possibility that other friends might want to join us that weekend, as well. I know that the rules say that you have to use an open season reservation yourself, but would it be possible to reserve additional units at the open season price for friends, as long as they're staying at the same property, for the same time period, and if I were to be present at check-in? I don't want to break the rules, but if I could snag a couple of other studios or 1BRs for friends who wanted to join us...well...that'd be terrific.
4. I also looked at making an additional open season booking at a different property for another time, and it said that I couldn't do it on-line, that I'd have to call. Would that still be the case if I'd managed to get revolution to work on my computer? Just wondering if the capacity of what you can do online is different.
5. I'm very excited about this. I know that's not a question. I gave it a number, anyway.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
